ABSTRACT:
Self-consumption of energy is the basis of the European guidelines and Spanish legislation concerning energy efficiency. In order to improve their energy efficiency, they are considering including energy self-consumption in the renovation plan for public street lighting facilities, which would be based on photovoltaic energy. The renovation would take into consideration adjusting the brightness levels to the required energy efficiency regulations for exterior facilities, the installation of LED lights, reducing the brightness levels during evening hours, and implementing a remote point-to-point system. We propose to include a photovoltaic system into the renovation in order to further reduce energy consumption. It would be composed of attaching micro inverter units to the foundation and preexisting electrical infrastructure, which transports the generated electrical energy to the distribution channels. We can achieve an energy self-sufficient installation with zero CO2 emissions.
