ABSTRACT
The Project of Zorrotzaurre is the latest urban regeneration operation in Bilbao. From the first stages of urban planning, this project has been conceived considering sustainability as the main driving force. This directive has influenced the detailed design project of the urban development on the right bank of the Deusto Canal, where the use of recycled and siderurgic aggregates for conforming the main construction units is prescribed. This project is a large-scale example of using electric arc furnace steel slag as a component for non-structural concrete in pedestrian pavements for urban areas, and therefore contributing to the transition towards a quasicircular economy.
