In this media world, where communication is worth as much or more than the facts, it is more and more necessary to ask the question about how we, the industrial engineers, are seen by society and, above all, if we are recognized as an unmistakable group among the many who appear before public opinion. It is almost certain that, if we were to carry out a survey on the street about the perception of the tasks, for example, of lawyers, doctors, architects, civil engineers or computer engineers, the answers, although varied and sometimes confusing, would show that they are relatively identified as groups with specific and, above all, necessary functions for society.
