ABSTRACT: A widespread approach for evaluating vehicle fuel consumption and pollutant emissions is by reproducing standard driving cycles. It is therefore essential that these cycles represent the actual behavior of the vehicle. Some types of vehicles have specific kinematic cycles, such as those traveling on fixed urban routes, although these are usually evaluated as if all itineraries share similar characteristics, which is a major constraint. This paper presents a methodology for the construction of polygonal standard driving cycles applicable to this kind of vehicles and explicit for each group of routes with analogous kinematic characteristics. The methodology comprises the data processing for the operation, the clustering of the itineraries and the structure of the representative cycle for every group. The algorithms have been successfully applied on a sample of city buses in Madrid.
