RESUMEN

El comercio electrónico es una de las aplicaciones más importantes que Internet ofrece a la Sociedad. Su crecimiento es imparable y su implantación en el tejido financiero / empresarial es una consecuencia de la necesidad de competir en un entorno global y desconocido. La seguridad de nuestras comunicaciones y la confianza que debemos depositar en empresas y consumidores 'virtuales' es el factor que más frena el pleno desarrollo de esta implantación. Existen riesgos de carácter activo y pasivo tales como la suplantación del remitente, la alteración de la información enviada o su posible rechazo. La única contramedida eficaz que permite eliminar estos riesgos es la Infraestructura de Clave Pública (PKI), un sistema basado en algoritmos que utiliza conceptos virtuales como Firma electrónica, Certificados digitales y Autoridades de certificación, todos ellos similares a sus equivalentes en el mundo real. Estos conceptos y su aplicación son objeto de análisis en este informe, haciéndose también un breve repaso de la normativa jurídica que actualmente los trata.

ABSTRACT

Electronic commerce is one of the most important applications that Internet has to offer Society in the year 2002. Its growth is unstoppable; implantation in the financial and business world deriving from the need to compete within a global and unknown environment. Questions of security of communications and trusting 'virtual' companies and customers are putting a brake on the full development of such implantation. Risks can be both active and passive; for example, the sender may be supplanted, or information sent can be altered or refused. The only effective countermeasure for eliminating risks is Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), a system based on algorithms that uses virtual concepts such as Electronic Signature, Digital Certificates and Certification Authorities, all similar to their real world equivalents. The present report analyzes these concepts and their application, and also offers a brief review of the current legal regulations that affect them.
