ABSTRACT:In recent years, the development of medical science has been marked by an increasingly interdisciplinary, which could be attributed to various engineering applications. The rapid development of computer-aided technologies, which completely transformed the production engineering, has also left an indelible mark in dentistry. Especially in the areas of dental prosthesis and implantology has introduced numerous technologies and methods for the manufacture of precision custom dental restorations.In industrially developed countries, efforts have been focused towards the advancement of digitization, modeling and fabrication of dental restorations by introducing modern technological equipment, materials and machining technologies. However, in countries in transition, dental restorations are manufactured predominantly in a traditional way, which is a process largely manual and very error prone.The objective of the research is to contribute to the integration in dentistry of the advanced technologies of engineering, as computer-aided systems and reverse engineering. The study covers the entire process: scanning, transfer, simulation, modeling and manufacturing, with special emphasis on the progress of the latest digital dentistry.This study aims to promote a closer cooperation between the two disciplines: dentistry (especially prosthetics) and engineering, with a view to the successful development of new innovative solutions. In that sense, this study should serve to both professions: production engineers and dentists.
