Se ha realizado un estudio de tensiones, fatigas y deformaciones en piezas compactas, como son los volantes de inercia sometidos a esfuerzos alternados ejue, con frecuencia baja, al sobrepasar un determinado número de ciclos, trabajan en condiciones de fatiga. El estudio teórico se ha centrado en una muestra de una serie de volantes, verificándose asimismo ensayos no destructivos, micrografías y análisis microscópicos, juntamente con la determinación de calidades del material y su dureza. El trabajo comprende un análisis teórico de solicitaciones, comportamiento de la pieza en su estado elástico, observación de la rotura y deformaciones y se llega a una serie de conclusiones a tener en cuenta en el diseño y proyecto de piezas sometidas a esfuerzos de inercia y centrífugos.
