ABSTRACTFor several years, UE has been trying to increase the use of biofuels to replace petrol or diesel in the transports with the aim of fulfilling a commitment about climate change, supplying enviromentally friendly conditions, promoting renewable energy sources. To achieve this, the 2003/30/EC Directive states that in all the European countries, before 31st December 2010, at least 5.75% of all petrol and diesel fuels used for transport are biofuels.Analyzing biofuels as replacement of fossil fuels nowadays in Spain is the aim of this paper.KEY WORDS: Ethanol, bioethanol, biodiesel, biofuel, renewable energy, automotive.
