ABSTRACT: Since several decades fuel cells have coexist with another type of technologies in the background. These types of devices have been studied intensely for their use in different applications due to their high potential to transform chemical energy into electrical energy efficiently and sustainably. In this work, evolution of proton exchange membranes Fuel Cells (PEMFC) along last decades has been studied. Since introduction describes the historical evolution from the beginning in times of Sir William Grove even today. Different fuel cells have been taken into account and PEMFC has been studied in depth, including hydrogen as a combustible. In addition, last achievements and technological barriers and as well as applications on PEMFC to transport (terrestrial, air and maritime) and also stationary field have been reviewed.KEYWORDS: Fuel Cells, Hydrogen, Transport, Stationary, Market
