Active Power Filters (AFP) have been shown to be a good option for improving the power factor (PF) and mitigating THD current in the electrical grid. FAP operation involves two main tasks: regulating the dc voltage and controlling the compensation current. Fulfilling these tasks requires a cascade controller, which consists of two control loops: an external loop for regulating the dc voltage and an internal loop for controlling the compensation current.
