ABSTRACT
• Purpose: This study proposes a methodology that integrates reverse engineering and mandibular dynamics in dental CAD/CAM systems. Thus, it aims to provide more objective information to the dental technician for diagnosis, planning and treatment.
Method: In the proposed methodology, the occlusal contacts are detected by the T-Scan system and occlusal surfaces are obtained using an intraoral scanner. These contacts are projected onto the patient’s occlusal surfaces and also, occlusal forces are obtained over time. Results: Using this methodology, 4 cases (in vitro and in vivo) have been carried out and the viability of this integration has been analyzed. On the one hand, reliability was determined by analyzing the existence of contacts and an average value of 78% was obtained.
Discussion & Conclusion: The study is a step forward in digital dentistry, because it determines the exact location of contacts and occlusal forces individual patient over time. This information is more meaningful for the dental professional and in a future study, it should determined the accuracy of the methodology.)
• Keywords: reverse engineering, mandibular dynamics, occlusal contacts, dental CAD/CAM, digital workflow.
