ABSTRACTThis article presents the development of a design methodology “Kansei Engineering” (KE) focused in the aesthetic and formal development of products. Kansei Engineering is a structured methodology of product design solutions in a synthesis’s space by connecting the product’s attributes and subjective requirements of its users. If this methodology is applied to the design philosophy “Design for Aesthetics”, the result is a set of statistical relationships between the customer’s impressions of a product and the formal and aesthetic properties of the product. This methodology may develop products that emotionally connect with the user, which will achieve a long lasting relationship over time between the products and their users. This model applies to the methodological design of a chair with the aim of creating an emotional bond with the potential user.KEY WORDS: Kansei Engineering, Design for Aesthetics, Quantification Theory 1, Semantic Differential, Emotional Design.
