El impacto que ha supuesto para la opinion española la decision del Gobierno de entrar en el reducido grupo de 'Países de Alta Velocidad ferroviaria se ha canalizado, desde el punto de vista de la admiracion tecnologica, hacia los trenes. El precursor Tokaido, el TGV, el ICE, el español TAV (Tren de Alta Velocidad) han polarizado la atencion, llegandose a confundir el todo por la parte en injusta sinecdoque. Para conseguir que un conjunto de vehiculos circule a 250 km/h. o mas, es preciso lograr la conjuncion de los muy diversos elementos que constituyen un ferrocarril: infraestructura, plataforma - puentes - túneles, catenaria , serializacion, comunicaciones, material motor y remolcado y superestructura, balasto - traviesa - carril - aparatos de via. No debe, por tanto, hablarse de trenes de AV para referirse al ferrocarril de AV. El objeto de este articulo es mostrar al lector la importancia de un elemento de la superestructura ferroviaria, los desvios, pieza clave, entre otras, que permite la realizacion de la Alta Velocidad.
