Un estudio científico ha demostrado que para alimentar, vestir, alojar, transportar y eliminar los residuos que genera un habitante normal de un
país desarrollado se necesita toda la biodiversidad de 4,5 hectáreas de buen terreno. Cuando surge en escena el Homosapiens, producto de 3.600 millones de años de evolución de la Creación, quizás había en la Tierra suelo suficiente para sustentar a unos mil millones de esos sere s . Desgraciadamente, la cantidad de buen terreno no ha aumentado.
