ABSTRACT Energy efficiency is nowadays a major issue regarding to sustainability in housing. In this way, energy efficiency has to do with CO2emissions reduction. Maybe, the weakness point in housing envelopes is the glazed surfaces. So it is a necessity to improve the Energy Efficiency from glazed surfaces. This study tries to explore the contribution and optimization of new high tech types of glass to get improvements in general energy efficiency in houses glazed surfaces. This study will carry out a research on developed commercial products and their application to housing and testing process The study will allow designing new glazed envelopes for their use in Energy efficient houses. It also will allow exploring the return of the initial investment in special types of glass, by means of energy savings. Key words: Electro-chromic glass, energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, switchable glass, smart windows.
