Staffs are frequently dimensioned to attend a given workload demand, which is highly variable over time. For example, providing services for planes while parked is characterized by a great variability in terms of the required work load, due to the time dispersion of arrivals and departures. This turns the task of staff dimensioning into a complex and critical one, since the associated cost highly impacts the profit and loss account of the company. In this paper we present a highly configurable model that we solve using Linear Programming, which allows to obtain optimal result for large numbers of workers. It can be of use for a large number of industries. In particular, we describe an example where the impact is assessed in economic terms.
