ABSTRACT: Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing are part of a transformation, in which manufacturing and information technologies have been integrated to create innovative manufacturing systems, management and ways of doing business, which allow optimizing manufacturing processes, achieving greater flexibility, efficiency and adding value for its customers, as well as responding in a timely manner to market needs. Artificial vision represents one of the most relevant transversal tools within Industry 4.0, being clearly integrated in each of the stages of a production process. This paper presents the development of a vision system to perform dimensional inspection of cutting discs in a manufacturing line, aiming to have a system with 100% accuracy in the detection of dimensional defects. The vision system is designed based on the structure of a conventional vision system; A set of algorithms have been developed that characterize the stages of: detection, visualization, capture, processing, analysis and decision-making. The algorithms are implemented through a platform developed in LabVIEW, designed through events, which allows memory optimization in the processing module, improves the efficiency of the algorithm by avoiding constant sampling, and avoids the overhead associated with data logging. Keywords: Machine vision, quality inspection, LabVIEW, process improvement.
