ABSTRACT:For several decades, human society has paid attention to issues related to the unsustainability development of nations. However, many institutions, countries and companies in the last years have implemented actions aimed at reducing the negative effects of human economy in society and the environment. Sustainability assessment is a vital issue for sustainable development at organisation, industrial, national and global levels.The Cuban government has recently granted companies and businesses a greater autonomy in management and it has created new forms of non-public management. It is thus essential to design methods to assess sustainability and results, not only from the economic viewpoint, but also from the social and environmental ones. This research proposes a procedure for assessing sustainable behavior in Cuban organisations, by using the methods: Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), and is based on systems, standards and indicators proposed by various international institutions. The result of the first phase are showing, the hierarchy for evaluating sustainability in Cuban organisations, based on dimensions, critical factors, indicator and measurement criteria proposed by experts.
